Welcome to the Hawthorne II (deux) Bilingual Alternative Primary School website, where the students, staff, and parents get to tell it like it is to the whole wide world (WWW :).
All parents at Hawthorne are automatically voting members of the Parent Council, and are encouraged to join a committee.
As discussed at the School council meeting, the TDSB is considering a proposal to get rid of the Grade 7 entry point for Extended French, leaving Grade 4 as the latest point a student can choose Extended French. Right now, the Hawthorne kids who want to go on in Extended French go to Winona, which is a Grade 7 entry point school. Please consider writing your trustee to object to this change.

This is the Hawthorne II Bilingual Alternative Handbook’s final draft after the revisions and discussions that occurred during the year 2007-2008. The principles and working points stand as they are and should be respected. And yet, it continues to be a work in progress. Any member of our community who wishes to take issue with aspects of the handbook should bring their ideas to a school council meeting or should write in the comments section of this entry.
When some point warrants it, a committee can be formed to fine-tune it further, as is currently the case with the dialectic around the place of competition and the value of collaboration in our school culture.

The chaos that occurs during morning drop off triggered a long conversation at the January 2008 Council meeting. There’s a lot more to say, so this topic is here to record ideas and concerns.

Some parents didn’t get the letter that came with the magazine envelope. I’ve copied it here. Please contact me at kcarlin@sympatico.ca with any questions.
