Teachers at Hawthorne have agreed to parent involvement in their classrooms.
Just as parents have different ideas and styles, teachers also have differences in how they want to utilize volunteers.
The best way to figure out how to support a teacher in the classroom is to talk to the individual teacher.
Some ideas for school day volunteering are:
- performing, teaching, presenting or leading activities
- assisting on field trips
- collecting materials from the community e.g. art materials
- reading to children and listening to reading
- volunteering in the library
- playing math or language games with small groups
- facilitating groups with work to do
- helping set up gym equipment
- preparing and supervising art projects
- photocopying
- organizing book club orders for the teachers
- one-on-one tutoring
